re:publica 26: Reclaim Your Web
Our exhibit at re:publica 26 in Berlin was a great success: two 5-meter walls of web page screenshots from three decades, and more than 1500 visitors placed stickers, printed their own pages, or added sites that should exist. Here are some impressions.

re:publica 26: Reclaim Your Web
From May 18 to 20, 2026, weblin was at re:publica 26 in Berlin with the exhibit "Reclaim Your Web - A Map of the Internet That Matters to You". We proposed the idea in January (see [Application for an Exhibit at re:publica 2026](https://weblin.io/Blog/Post/IsmbSU-Application_for_an_Exhibit_at_re_publica_2026)), and re:publica accepted it. Now we can say: it worked.

### The exhibit

A 5-meter canvas in one of the passages at STATION Berlin, covered with screenshots of web pages from the 1990s to today: early hand-coded homepages, Web 2.0 communities, beloved sites long gone, and the corners of the web that still matter. A timeline on the opposite wall collected pages by year, from 1995 to 2026.

Visitors picked a sticker avatar and placed themselves on the pages that shaped their internet journey. Those who could not find their page printed it on the spot and added it to the wall. And under the heading "Next - What Should Exist" people pinned websites that do not exist yet, but should.

### More than 1500 interactions

Over three days we counted more than 1500 interactions: stickers placed, pages printed and added, and new sites proposed. The wall filled up quickly. Clusters formed around the same old forums, zines and games. People stopped, searched for "their" page, found strangers already there, and started talking. That is exactly the idea behind weblin: behind every URL there are real people who care, and if you can see them, you can meet them.

Many conversations started with "what is this about?" and ended with the browser extension, which does the same thing online: it shows the people who are on the same web page as you, right now, as avatars, on any page, without a login or a profile.

### Thank you

Thank you to everyone who placed a sticker, printed a page, proposed a site, or just stopped to talk. Thanks to the re:publica team for giving the idea a wall. In the end, the wall came down and went into a bag, but the map of the internet that matters to you lives on at [weblin.io](https://weblin.io).
